KNFSAreceived two calls on the evening of the 22nd of May 2008. One was from Pastor Nkala and the other was from Dr M Buthelezi. Both calls highlighted the plight of the refugees in these two places and the urgent need for intervention.
- At 08H30 the National Department of Social Development was called (Mr Andrew Rephetsu). Permission was asked if ADRA could utilize the funds lefts over from the previous disaster for intervention for this crisis. Permission was granted.
- Pastor Derek Glass was then contacted and a parcel and budget was agreed upon.
- Purchases where made and by 14H00 on the 23rd of May 2008 the food was delivered to the police commissioner at the Cator Manor Police Station and from there to the Queen Street Cathedral.
- A group of volunteers assisted with the purchase and delivery of the goods.
I must thank ADRA South Africa and the Department of Social Development for having the confidence in our office to see to the needs of the persons affects by this crises. Also to all the volunteers a very special thank you. It would not have been possible without their help.
It was very exciting to be able to deliver this assistance within 24 hours of the request. It is hoped that ADRA can continue to deliver at such notice.
